Waterproofing a basement requires more than simply patching up trouble spots and can be very damaging if using drylock and other waterproofing paints. Instead, it's important to not only locate the sources of the leak, but also to check for problems in the foundation of the home to prevent future leaks.
- How do you stop leaks in a basement? Does drylock work?
The problem starts with going deep in the source of the ground and finding out where the water is coming from.
- Does a french drain work for leaky basements?
No! You need to do a tile drain system. It is better, deeper and works the best.
Should I use Drylock?
- What is drylock?
Drylock is a paint that you put on the walls and it holds back water. The problem is that when you apply this paint, it causes hydrostatic pressure to build up. Which causes your walls to crack! Its the same thing when you see concrete cracks or concrete floors crack. Usually this is from soil settlement from water or hydrostatic pressure building up. Never use drylock— it simply hides the problem and makes the water go somewhere else, causing more damage as it moves through the soil behind the wall of the basement problem.
- What is a patented drain system where the company tears out part of the concrete and places the plastic like drain inside the concrete. This lets water run along the drain and into a sump pump system?
There is no such thing as a patented system that carries water away inside the ground because the little plastic drains are too small to handle all the water that is usually released when we tear out the ground releasing all that pressure build up! Anything that works takes time to install, especially when you have water problems. The plastic is usually 6 inches to 8 inches wide and the actual drain needs to be 14 to 20 inches wide. Don't waste your money. Call us at 1-800-561-9039 for a free 15 minute consultation. We will share the facts of the exact type of tile drain system to use.
What about water in my basement?
- How should a sump pump system be installed?
The sump pump needs to be a minimum 41 gallons per minute so it can pump through its basin and into the tile drain system away from your home. It should be installed in the deepest area of the home. So that water will flow into and carry the tile drain system all the way around each wall deep into the ground or the basement drain system will not work.
- How long does it take to install a drain system in my basement for water problems?
With the right equipment and usually about 4 to 5 people it will take one to two weeks.
- How much does it cost to fix my basement leaking?
Basement Waterproofing costs range from $1,500 to $35,000 depending on the damage and square footage.
