No. Never put two boards together most people called sister two boards together if a support beam has wood rot by nailing them into the old wood beams because this can eventually cause rotten wood to start in the new wood and will only put more weight on the existing structure. Do they allow water to keep getting inside the cracks causing more concrete damage.

If you find the concrete has been sealed with caulking, this could be a sign of a major problem because when the ground moves, the caulking will just open back up and concrete repairs will need to be done by a licensed general contractor who understands there is a water problem and that must be fixed before replacing the old concrete or it will just crack again.

 

Check For Plumbing Leaks

When you check for plumbing leaks, you need a licensed plumber to do a leak detection test and a dye test to see if any water is leaking outside of the pipes. Water pressure builds up in the pipes and with a leak detection test, this can tell you by testing the amount of pressure flowing through the plumbing.

Any leaks in the plumbing can seep out under the concrete slab and cause the slab to crack and foundation to move or sinking of the concrete foundation. Sometimes a leak won’t be detected for years until you find out later on water is now coming up from under the slab and causing major water damage that will need to be repaired and concrete replaced. Find Out If Any French Drains Have Been Installed

Most french drains do not work and will clog up and fail within 1 year or 2 years after the installation of a french drain. Most homeowners will often ask me, why does a french drain fail because it is suppose to carry water away and keep the home safe.

The reasons french drains fail is when you disturb the ground and put in a drain pipe and gravel with the fabric liner to keep the drain system clean, not all the water will hit the ADS drain pipe or perforated pipe better known as the black pipe. If to much rain or ground water gets into this drain, it will overflow the drain pipe and keep running through the gravel and causing soil erosion below.

Once soil erosion keeps happening, you will start to see the drain pipe clog up with mud and water will start to also grow plants and roots inside your french drain because most are not put deep enough into the ground. Yo always want to go at least 4 to 7 feet deep for a french drain system and make sure you use a water barrier system under the gravel once you dig out the ground so water will hit that and stay inside the drain system and not causing more erosion below and seeping into your homes foundation.
